The majority of my friends liked the first draft the way it was. However, there were a couple who mentioned a few things.
One of them said that she would like to have seen that the symbols were carved all around the base of the Staff. Although I can't literally do that since paper is only 2D, I decided to create the illusion that there were symbols carved all around by reducing the size of the original circles and adding slivers of more symbols on either side.
The other told me a more pressing issue; the Staff didn't look natural. She told me that it looked more like it was made of glass rather than of wood. And although I couldn't really draw well how an ordinary tree branch twists since I'm still technically out of practice, I decided to make the extra effort of making it look more natural. I roughed up the edges of the Staff, made the symbol circles look like they were actually carved out, and added some little details such as the broken stumps and the faint scratches. I told her that the real magic in making it look like wood would be in the coloring, which I still plan not to do until all of my friends approve of the design.
I didn't draw the symbols in these circles; I'm going to let the colors take care of that. But you should know where the symbols would go based off of my first draft.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
This newsletter was "born" back in March 2007. While things have changed over time, the essence of the newsletter is still the same. We choose photomanipulations that have made an impression on us from the past week. We do not base our choices on preference or friendships and we have never featured ourselves. We simply pick photomanipulations showing creativity, technique and quality at the same time, and are simply eye-catching. As we are also stock artists, we will only feature the works that give proper credits to stock artists.
